Earl Muntz started on the road to financial success when he established used car sales lots in and around Los Angeles in 1941. When he teamed up with advertising wiz Mike Shore, Earl became famous thanks to their saturation advertising campaign—176 sixty-second commercials on 13 different LA radio stations every day. The crazy salesman persona he assumed gave him the nickname of “Madman”.

After WWII, Earl became the largest Kaiser – Frazer new car dealer in the country. In 1947 alone Muntz dealerships sold $72M worth of new and used cars. Earl’s business success continued when he branched out into making and selling low cost televisions in the late 1940s. Muntz sold $20M worth of televisions in 1950.

In 1951, Earl became a car manufacturer. He bought the production tooling and all of the rights to a spiffy sports car, the Muntz Road Jet, designed by noted race car designer and builder Frank Kurtis.
